Second Pass Weyr - AU Canon Pern
Lightly Played Characters

Lightly Played Characters, or "LPCs", are a type of NPC. These characters are 'lightly played' - hence the name - by a single Player. These characters may or may not be available for adoption by another player, but cannot be played, even in passing, without the permission of the Player who claims them.

Why?

Often, a Player will find themselves with attached character concepts - such as children, siblings, other family members, or past lovers for example - of one of their processed characters. These characters don't really have enough importance to become a processed character (a character with their own account) but they may be mentioned with some regularity, or they might occassionally have a reason to show up and interact with a PC, for whatever reason.

The use of a personal LPC account allows a Player to play out such a character, without being required to fill out a full blown profile, go through the steps of having them processed, feel obligated to uphold some semblance of continual activity with them, or have the character linger in limbo from lack of ability to move forward.

Who can play an LPC?

Any Player who has at least one Processed character can apply for an LPC Account to be assigned to their Player Account, and create LPCs to go on it.

Is there a limit to how many I can have?

No, there is not! Players are expected to be both mature and responsible with the number of LPCs they own, however, and the admin retain the right to request an LPC be processed if they become heavily played to the degree where they are obviously a character in their own right.

What can be an LPC?

Any type of character can be an LPC - they may be a family member of your own character (or someone elses!). They might be a current or past lover, a Searchrider, or they might simply be John Brown from down the road. There are no real limitations or restrictions on what type of character can or cannot be an LPC.

What about ranks?

An LPC can hold any rank that isn't otherwise held or desired by a Processed character. They can be anything from the Weyrleader down, if the rank is open. It should, however, be noted that while an LPC can hold any such rank, they will be deranked In Character (a plot of some description will be developed - whether it be resignation through to deranking, death, etc) and the rank will be handed over to the Processed character.

What about Face Claims?

An LPC may not permanently claim a Face. What this means, is that while they can add their face ot the Face Claim listing, it will come with an asterisk (*) beside it, indicating that if someone desires to create a PC character with that face, they will be able to officially claim it, and the LPC will lose their right to that face. If a Player wishes to keep the face, they will need to process the character officially.

Can my LPC Impress?

Yes! An LPC's Impression application is both similar and dissimilar to that of a Processed candidate character. If you want your LPC to Impress, you can either submit a regular application and leave it up to the Team to create a dragonet for them, or you can submit a dragon profile yourself for the character in question to Impress.

Please do note, that if an LPCs dragonet is developed by the Team, it will come sans personality, or with very little personality. You will get images, name, description and size. To see an example of what an NPC/LPC dragonet looks like, please view K'rin's green Ajaaskath.

A female LPC may Impress gold, on the condition that the Player does not already control a goldrider; a Player may also have no more than 3 female chromatic riders at any point in time, including those on both Processed and LP characters.

Applications

LPCs don't have an application process such as the actual characters do. Each LPC requires a 'Detailed Profile Spine' to be used, so as that bits and pieces can be added to the profile as they become relevent or known to the Player. They do not need to be filled out fully, however - the bare basics are enough: Name, age and a basic description will get you rolling.

Activity

LPCs are not required to fulfil any type of activity requirements, and are free to gather dust for as long as they are unneeded. Despite that, Players are encouraged not to let threads grow dusty or die if they are participating in them with an LPC. For the duration of any threads, there is a level of expected activity required of a Player, as per would be expected of them when participating in any other thread with a processed character.

Posting Regulations

When you post as an LPC, you will need to provide a few key details in order to avoid confusing people. This is due to the fact that the LPCs will all be played on the same account, and if a Player has several, it may not be immediately apparent every time which character it is being played. To bypass this, all LPC account posts should be headed with the following:

(Name) of Colour Dragon
any pets present.

or

(Name) of Main Rank
any pets present

The ()'s around the name will provide a hotlink to the characters written profile, providing an RP partner with whatever details have been set out. The inclusion of rank, dragon name and colour, or any pets also helps with keeping the important information about the character present.

Processing an LPC

An LPC can be processed, if and when it becomes active enough that it is no longer just "lightly" played, or should the Player become attached enough to desire the character to become processed.

Processing an LPC is very easy; a Player simply needs to complete any missing points on the LPC's profile, and submit it to the appropriate section of the Help Desk. The Team will then process the character - which by that point, should be very straight forward - and then create and assign their account to your Player account.

After the character's new account as been assigned, the Player is encouraged to go through their LPC account and find all the posts made by that character, and edit them. In the editing menu, they will see the option to re-assign which account made that post. They should re-assign that post to the new account, thereby giving the character credit for all their prior postings!
