Casa paced nervously back and forth, keeping her hands busy with clearing the very last of the trays from the lunch rush. Her mind was frantically turning over as she worked, trying to keep herself from fidgeting. The eggs she'd found with Ryvian were hard as rocks and hot to the touch - that meant they were going to hatch ANY TIME. At last, the tables in the area she wanted was clear, as well as all the leftovers and debris from the lunch meal. A few stragglers sat back in the corner, but she didn't mind this - that meant that when these eggs hatched, they would have a place to go! She certainly didn't want 10 flitters hanging around her all the time.

She arranged several trays of meatrolls and meat scraps from the preparation of dinner on the tables so they were in easy reach for people. She had heard when they hatched they were ravenous little monsters. After this, she carefully began the process of moving her eggs out from the kitchen, where they had been near the ovens to stay warm. She brought out a large tub filled with coals on the bottom and sand on top, setting it down on the table where everyone could come around and see. She was ever so careful with her prizes as she took them from the pots they'd been in, nestling them into the too-hot sand to rest. They sat there, gleaming softly in the low light of the dining hall.

Her task done, she sat down nervously, her fingers running through the short strands of her sandy hair. Excitement and nervousness welled up in her stomach and mind, sending thrills through her. As she stared at them, one of the rocked back and forth, and she all but screamed, jumping up and looking around. Several more eggs began to twitch back and forth, teasing her. Some people were arriving, but the eggs were moving! It would be soon, and they needed to come so they could Impress the babies she knew were getting ready to enter the world.

Quenym was dashing through the halls like the wind, escaping yet another beating that had been threatened upon him by a worker that had discovered a nasty bit of a prank that he was in the midst of pulling. Too bad! He was faster than she, and that meant he was far away by the time her threats reached his ears!

A grin spilt his face as he panted for breath, slowing down to a walk. He finally entered the dining hall, looking around for something to eat and remembering he had something important to be there for. He found the set up for something terribly interesting. It was the set-up for the flit egg hatching, which he had received her notice about. Qenym was wide-eyed at the eggs that were starting to rock. "Shards and shells, girl! This is amazing! Where did you find them?!"

He stepped forward, looking at each of the eggs. Oh, they were pretty! And he hadn't one for himself, either. "I know you sent me that invitation, but are you sure you don't mind if I step in on this one? I'd dearly love to see if I couldn't get one. Surprised you're not aiming to keep them all!" Amazement and wonder colored his voice. Oh, but he was so dearly excited! And Casa had kept it a secret! Oh, that girl...

Tray balanced in one hand, K'ton licked the last bit of stickiness from his thumb. That pie.. Best damn pie he'd ever had. He glanced around the dining hall as he searched for a place to sit, tray still balanced in one hand. His brow cocked slightly as he noticed Casa and a boy he'd never met huddled around a table farther along the room. Now what was that girl up to? Curiosity got the better of him and the dark haired man made his way towards the table.

"Hey Casa! Whatcha got there, kiddo?" he asked lightly. Peeking around her shoulder he saw what he thought at first were a bunch of rocks. Now why would a couple of kids have brought rocks into the dining hall? His eyes widened and he began to backpedal as he realized just what exactly they were.

Firelizard eggs! Hard and ready to crack if he had any guess. He needed to leave before one of the little pests hatched and decided he was a good enough person to cling to. I think you should stay! Ironth inserted and K'ton rolled his eyes as he slowly backed away. Of course you do! How long have you been pestering me for one of the little snakes with wings? he shot back. He could hear the whine in Ironth's voice when the dragon replied, Whats the harm in it? Whats the harm in it?! Why he could end up with one of those things and then where would he be?

Flora approached the Dinning hall. She had been convinced to join the others for the surprise. Casa had sent her a offical invitation to come.  She was pretty excited to see the firelizards hatch. A hatching mind you that she wouldn't be run over during like she did on the sands. Flora wasn't gonna go at first but everyone said it would be theraputic for her to watch a hatching and get back into the saddle so to speak. She was nervous about  going out on the sands again.  She was nervous before but now it was so much worse after she got hurt.

She looked around as she entered the Dinning hall  she noticed several were there already and notice Casa right away.  Then there was Quenym another one of their group of brats.  She also saw a rider there as well.  She walked up to them  "Hello Casa, Hello Quenym. " she said softly.

Flora looked up at the man she believed that he was one of the brown riders but couldn't place his dragons name right away.   The mans name was K'ton if she was remembering it right. Ironth yes that was the dragons name.  She usually remembered ones she meet but had hard time with the ones she hadn't yet meet. But she was getting better at it. Course being laid up with her injuries to her legs left her lots of time to study.

"Hello  brownrider K'ton of Ironth." Flora spoke in her softly sweet voice. " Did you come to watch them hatch as well. " Flora smiled up sweetly at the rider.

The amazement and energy coming from Quenym made Casa grin proudly. Her surprise was a good one, she knew, and she wanted to share it with all her friends. "Of course you can have one!" she said, shaking her head at him like he was dumb. "Don't be such a wherry, Quenym. It'll be our adventure companion when we go to work on chores and protect the herdbeasts." She winked carefully at him, turning to greet K'ton when he came over.

Seeing the look of discomfort on his face, she turned on the big eyes and innocent looks. "Uncle K'ton, won't you stay to at least watch? There's a whole bunch of them, and while they aren't dragons, you know more about them than I do! Besides, I bet Ironth would stay and keep me company..." She had the image of the brown trying to fit in here, knowing he wanted K'ton to Impress one. She was going to do everything in power to see it happened, but she had to at least try to be sly about it.

When Flora arrived, she waved hello to her friend, gesturing to the eggs. "Feel free to look at 'em," she said with a soft smile for her only non-girly girl friend. "I bet one takes a liking to you -" and as if to emphasize her point, there was a loud crack sound as one of the eggs burst wide open.

---
On Casa's words, the Citron egg burst into pieces after rocking its way against the side of the tub. It's distinct puckered orange shell shattered and bounced off other eggs, revealing a blue who shook its head, chittering in confusion and hunger. His dark blue hide shimmered in the low light of the dining hall, and he creeled softly, noticing the people above. Creeling with more urgency, the feeling of hunger flooded Flora's mind,

He clumsily moved his way to the edge of the tub, tripping over the Numbweed egg on the way. It wobbled side to side before part of its silvery surface fell away, revealing a wing tip. The wet wing matched the egg's color, a pale green-silver, as it struggled to break the rest of the shell. Another small chip fell off, revealing a tiny head. The green's eyes found K'ton and she cried for help, her hunger and fear hitting him like a wave.

Quenym watched as one of the riders appeared. It seemed that Casa had been getting around and making contact. He approved. More pele for them to bother and ask for favors when they needed it. She was a smart one, indeed! He was very proud of having asked her to be his second in command. Casa was a wise pick.

Flora joined them soon enough. It made the boy wince some, since he and Casa hadn't quite finished her gift. But they would! They had everything they needed for it now! The only thing that he really was banking on was that she wouldn't heal before they got finished with it, because then it wasn't a get well gift anymore, was it? And Quenym wanted it to be a get well gift! He had promised that it would be.

If the eggs hadn't been all set to hatch, he would have turned tail to get working on the gift again. But no, he wasn't that lucky. He wasn't lucky at all! Two eggs hatched, and Quenym watched, eyes gleaming with hope, that one of them wanted him. Why wouldn't they? He was awesome and knew how to have fun!

.... Apparently, the two that hatched didn't think so. His face fell when they flittered off to the rider and Flora. For a moment he stared, dismayed. But only for a moment. The next minute he was staring back at the eggs with a determined look. One of them would want him! So two didn't? There were still eight more eggs, and if those two didn't want him that was that. Was he going to be like that when he was at a Hatching? No way!

"I uh.. Not exactly," he answered Flora as she asked if he'd come to see the hatching. Of course he hadn't! Firelizards were pests and a menace, cute though they were. They were always into everything. Some of them barely even trained and they stole! He'd begun to back away again when Casa's voice rang through. He cringed as she insisted he stay and only rubbed it in when suggesting Ironth would stay.

A sounding crack stilled the words that he had thought to voice and his cringe deepened into a full body wince. Damn it! He hadn't been fast enough. He sighed with relief when a little blue latched onto the young girl next to him. His relief was short lived as a head popped out from the other. A tiny green head. A head that looked at him and begun to cry. "Shit," he muttered. Don't just sit there! Feed her!

Ironth's words got him moving and gripping his tray hard between his hands he shuffled forwards. You need meats, K'ton Well no kidding Ironth. I know that much, he bit back. With a quiet clang K'ton set him tray to the table and grabbed up some meats. Turning to the crying little green he stuffed the portion in her mouth, effectively quieting her. Which was a good thing because her terrible cries were grating.

Flora was looking at K'ton as he answered.  She waved and smiled at Casa as she greeted flora.  "Thank you for inviting me. But no sooner did the brownrider answer than a cracking sound was heard and before she knew it she had a bundle of blue latched onto her shirt and  and crawling into the pocket she had  a cookie in.

"Oh no little blue you don't want that you need meat. " Flora chuckled softly as the head peeked up at her and she grabbed a small piece of meat and held it out. Flora was all smiles now the worries the injury all that faded from her mind as she was enchanted by the blue beauty.  When the little blue was full and quite content with a extended belly from eating piece after piece from flora's hand he curled his tail around him and  drifted off to sleep as he let out a softly sigh of contentment.

Flora smiled " I think i'll call you  Cye. " she petted the tiny head with a finger as the little blue napped.  She moved away from the tub and smiles at the brownrider who apparently got the little green that hatched right after the blue.

The tiny green - for she was tiny, it was revealed when K'ton reluctantly freed her - chirrupped softly at him, and the hunger washing over him was tinged with a gentle, cautious presence. Had she done something to upset him? She chirped again, even softer, looking for meat in his fingers.

While the tiny, pale green was exploring his hands for food, the Tubers egg cracked open, and a sassy bright spring green squeaked loudly, a chunk of egg goo stuck to her wings. She mock-growled, huffing as she crawled towards the egg. Her irritation manifested as her tail whacked into the Redfruit egg; it stopped moving, showing itself to be empty of anything but goo and shards of shell. The green growled again, her tiny paws scrabbling to get up to Quenym as she demanded he feed her.

Casa sighed sadly at the empty egg but beamed at the little green staring up at Quenym, almost angry and definitely trying to sass him around. It made her giggle. She saw K'ton struggling to accept the quiet green who was trying to bond to him, and hoped he would adjust. She seemed so...peaceful and calm, which was unusual for a green. It might be a good way to convince him they weren't pure evil.

Her eyes were drawn back to the eggs as two eggs, the Fellis Tree and Marshberry cracked together, breaking both shells. From the Fellis fell a weakened little bronze; the other revealed a healthy chocolate brown firelizard. After a soft, sad sound, the bronze wobbled up and vanished between. Casa gasped, sad to see it go. Why had it done that? She was sure someone here would want it...as she was trying to figure it out, a solid trill caught her attention as the brown reached up to butt her hand, and she could feel its deep hunger echo in her mind.

She took up the little brown, the bronze sadly fading away she stuffed several chunks of meat into the beast's maw. It chirruped happily, a sort of gurgling sound around the meat, and she smiled then; even at the loss of the bronze, this fellow was plenty happy, and her favorite color to boot. "Hi there, little Knack," she murmured.

No sooner had he turned his attention back to the eggs than another few hatched, much to Quenym's delight. Even better, one of them flew to him! He laughed with delight as it made it wishes known, trying to boss him into feeding it. "You're a sassy one, aren't you?" He said, ecstatic that one had chosen him. He fed it without a problem, keeping an eye on the other eggs, just in case.

He caught sight of the sadness that happened next. The brown to Casa herself, but the bronze... A sad look took over. He leaned in close to the girls she fed her new flit. "Did you see how little and weak he was? He couldn't survive. He Betweened because of it. Dragons do as well if they get injured after they hatch, too much to survive." It was something he had heard about.

It was a loss he was sad for, as they could have taken care of the little flit... The little flit probably hadn't known that though. The green in his arms squawked for his attention again, though, and he perked up with it, adoring how cute it was! Even if it was more than a little demanding. It was his and he loved it.

Damn. Damn. Damn. All he did was come in to get a bite to eat and now he'd managed to impress a firelizard. The quiet little green cooed at him, opening her mouth for another bit of meat. K'ton obliged her, unwilling to hear more of her cries. She was worse than Ironth had been. Always hungry and always noisy. I was not, the brown said indignant and K'ton chuckled quietly as he continued to feed the little green.

Now if he could get out of the dining hall without managing to impress another, he would call it a somewhat good day. She is very lovely. What will you name her? Ironth asked as he gazed at the green through the eyes of his bonded. K'ton started slightly. He had to name her? Couldn't some one else do it? No. It must be you. She is yours after all, the brown said, voice heavy with amusement. She was rather quiet and had a bit of dignified serenity about her, when she wasn't shrieking loud enough to split his ear drums anyway. Serene was a good enough name as any. "I suppose I'll call her Serene," he said out loud.

So focused on his new little firelizard K'ton nearly missed the surrounding kids impress their very own. He was uncharacteristically sad to see the little bronze fade away, a bronze would've been fine with him. He was damaged inside. He wouldn't have survived, Ironth commented sadly, But Casa and the others have impressed quite healthy little sprites. K'ton nodded gently as he looked to the kids, "Congratulations on your impressions, kiddos!"

The last three eggs seemed almost impatient, not willing to wait for mourning to occur with their brother. All at once, Redwort, Klahbark, and Needlethorn rolled into one another, and shards went flying. Two greens and a blue - they are scrabbled around one another. Two of them, green and blue, went towards Casa, snapping playfully at one another. The blue calmed after a moment, chirping curiously at her. The green was sweeter, trilling and nipping at her finger tip. She jumped, eyes wide at the two demanding her attention.

The final green seemed torn between Quenym and K'ton, but hearing Quenym's louder vocalizations, she went to join her sister. This one was far less bossy, instead acting like a little princess. She sat down on the edge of the tub, staring up at him and waiting for him to do something about it. While the three babies were making their choices, the Cress egg sat back, forgotten. It had never really rocked, and now it sat still, remaining empty and dull.

Casa bit her lip, eyebrows furled tightly. "Another two? Goodness. I was hoping more would come to Impress them -" but she stuffed food in their mouths anyway, depositing Knack on her shoulder as she allowed each of the other two onto an arm. She offered the greedy beasts meat, sighing and shaking her head as she looked at K'ton. "At least you didn't end up with 3! I'm sure Ironth would be delighted...I feel like I should be..." Her expression was wry and she wrinkled her nose, but an air of delight escaped her. "Uh...you, sweet little green, you can be...Kaylee! And, the blue...Edge. Your sister is edging you out."

She glanced around at the little group, seeing everyone - even K'ton - with their new charges. She almost groaned at the thought of a fair of five following her and Quenym on their adventures. "Quen! What're you gonna name her? Can you imagine this?" She bit her lip, shaking her head as she continued to offer tidbits to the three nestled in her arms.

Quenym was more than a little startled when a second green decided to come up to him, but she was a lot less... Bossy... Than Sassy. He offered her some meat, a shy smile on his face. Two! Two flits wanted him! He gave a small giggle and looked over at Casa, who had three of them herself. "I think I'll name this one Lady. She's a lot sweeter than Sassy. Even waited for me to feed her!" He hadn't expected that at all.

"They're beautiful, Casa. Thank you for sharing them." His thanks was quiet but sincere. As he cradled the two flits close to him with one hand, he reached over and clasped her shoulder with the other.

"We are gonna have so many awesome adventures with them! I bet we can..." Quenym stopped short, realizing he was in public and that meant that he couldn't spill some of his better ideas. "We'll just have great times." The flits in his hand crooned a bit. "And they're so pretty. And yours are pretty handome. A blue and a brown! Very nice!" He grinned brightly at his friend, thrilled for her good fortune.
