Z'ia

Wingrider
of Blue Aveleth
... Busted [Rhaedalyn]
« on: 01 Aug 2013 at 10:53 AM »
Z'ia was, admittedly, a lot of things. Generally speaking, stupid was not one of them. But everyone makes mistakes.

The day had gone genuinely well, and the young bluerider had completed all his required tasks - both those on the books and off - before making himself, and his dragon, scarce for the evening. The day hadn't been too bad, weather wise, and while it was certainly still far too warm, it had not been a wet or too-muggy day. The dry heat was far more favourable, in Z'ia's not at all humble opinion, but escaping it for a while was still paramount. After carefully checking his riding gear, the young man had geared up his dragon, tossed on a rucksack filled with tasty treats (including several cinnamon buns for his wriggling dragon) and together they had fled the Weyr.

Flying was something Z'ia enjoyed immensely, and it was something the pair of them were very good at. Aveleth was a particularly talented blue, and while he would never be quite as nippy and quick as the greens, the young and timid dragon was quite good at zipping through the sky at high speeds, and doing interesting ducks and turns that kept his adrenaline seeking bonded happy. Despite all that, it could only satisfy the junky so much, and while Z'ia's first try at leaping off his dragon and plummeting to the ground had frightened Aveleth so badly he had barely managed to coordinate himself in time to actually catch his life mate, the pair had managed to figure out a routine in the years since, and perfected their very secret hobby.

Aveleth knew he out his tiny human in great danger every time Z'ia jumped off his back, and he also knew that he should find a more productive way for Z'ia to get his thrill. Despite that, Aveleth was also well aware of how much simple and pure joy the activity brought the man, and who was he to deny his lovely curly haired human what it was that made him happy? So long as Z'ia didn't trick him again, and promised to keep their hobby a secret, Aveleth had agreed to take part in it willingly. For his part, Z'ia was happy with the conditions.

The first time he had jumped off Aveleth, Z'ia had done it on impulse. He hadn't thought about how his dragon would respond, or what people would think if they saw him. He had had th sudden idea, and before it had even fully processed, he had taken a flying leap off his gleefully innocent dragon. It had nearly cost him his life, and earned him quite the scolding from D'hys, who (thankfully!) had been the only person to see the reckless move. While D'hys hadn't required it, and Z'ia hadn't out and out said anything, it was heavily implied by the tiny dragon rider that he wouldn't do it again, and in fact, as far as D'hys was aware it had been a one-hit wonder move. The degree to which Z'ia had frightened his precious dragon had, in fact, prevented him from repeating it any time soon. But he had, naturally.

Trips such as their current expedition were carefully managed. No company could come with them, because Z'ia had no desire to ruin his carefully maintained reputation as a mostly innocent little fellow who was great for a laugh and good company. He was aware of some of the nastier (and far more truthful) rumours that were spread by greenriders who had a tendency to be known as troublemakers. As a result, they were very rarely believed and Z'ia was the recipient of far more pity and understanding for being bad mouthed, than he ever was accused of such being truth. The little bluerider liked it that way, and had no desire - at all - to ruin any of it.

Additionally, Aveleth was generally very good about making sure that there was no one within range that would be able to see them playing their game of catch. He had grown to rather enjoy the challenge, and had perfected the trick of vanishing between to reappear well below Z'ia in order to catch him, in the unlikely event that he faltered too much in the beginning to catch up with him. It was a precaution that he had demanded to be well in control of before he let Z'ia jump for the second time.

Unfortunately, Aveleth almost exclusively broadened his senses to check the sky, rather than the mountainous terrain below them on such expeditions. He really should have known better, but they were rather a king distance outside Katila proper, and it had never occurred to the youngster that others might have been in the region, and landed for a snack, or to stretch their legs. He didn't check below, and so completely missed picking up on the very recognisable minds of Aradissicath and, in particular, Rhaedalyn. It was, perhaps, a good thing - Aveleth was like a moth to the light that was Rhaedalyn's mind; he so thoroughly enjoyed the active imaginings that went on within it, he would likely have been entirely distracted if he had known she was there.

The pair landed in a small clearing, Z'ia joking with the dragon with bright laughter and energetic gesticulation as he tugged off Aveleth's strapping, and tossed it on the ground, alongside the rucksack full of snacks. Plague, ever the pairs faithful companion, gave a chitter and a hiss before landing protectively beside the leathers and puffing up importantly. Z'ia worked very hard not to laugh as he petted her on the heas and quietly commanded Destiny remain with the other green. Chastity, as usual, was busy moping after D'hys. It was better that way, and Z'ia usually went out of his way not to bring the more quiet green firelizard in such expeditions; she was not a very good secret keeper. Destiny and Plague could be trusted, however, and they enjoyed the show!

Still laughing with Aveleth, Z'ia bounced up on top of his dragon, and Aveleth took off, Z'ia sticking to the smooth dragon hide without a care in the world. The little blue flew upwards lazily, swirling in woozy patterns and continuing to chat mildly with Z'ia, teasing him gently as they gained altitude, finally vanishing behind some of the low sitting clouds. It was, just as they vanished, that their leathers were discovered. A moment later, and the curly haired speck that was Z'ia, was toppling down through the clouds, followed a split second later by a plummeting dragon.

While, undoubtedly, the pair looked very much in distress to those upon the ground, the dragons unseen eyes were swirling pleasantly as he watched his human enjoy the sensation of freefalling, while he waited to be caught. Z'ia, reaching out suddenly (in a manner that made him look as if he was struggling to grab Aveleth) caused his controlled fall to become a spinning vortex, twisting rapidly around and around, before Aveleth's out reaching paw sent him steady for a moment, and then he was toppling head over heels.

Aveleth spotted their company about then, and the blue faltered in his flight, letting loose a bellow of surprise and terror that caused Z'ia's spinning to alter, and the man gave a harsh cry if his dragons name, snapping Aveleth back to reality - the dragon having fallen rather frighteningly behind in his effort to gawk at the people on the ground. Startled, Aveleth winked between and reappeared, snatching Z'ia out of the air at an alarmingly close range to the ground - certainly closer than the blue usually allowed Z'ia to become, and dropped the last couple of lengths to the ground, landing shamefully and curling up tightly. Z'ia, for his part, was unsure whether to be outraged or thrilled, as he wriggled out of Aveleth's grip.

"Kiddo -- the fuck?!" The exclamation was as far as Z'ia got before he was fed a very sudden image of the curly haired girl and her dragon, and Z'ia spun around, staring at them with massive eyes. When had they-? How had they-? Why were they-? Oh, damn. The blue riders face blanched. "Busted." Z'ia whispered, shrinking back against his dragon as well. The sudden furry of subtle relief he felt from Aveleth for their chosen theme was just as reassuring to Z'ia. Aveleth would never be able to convincingly lie to anyone, but especially not to the girl he liked so much for whatever reason. The truth, then, was the far better choice. Z'ia's face recoloured into a shameful blush, while Aveleth attempted to make himself invisible.

Plague settled on Z'ia's shoulder, while Destiny took up residence on Aveleth's nose. Z'ia's displeasure with the firelizards was not visible, but both were beign heavily reprimanded for not removing the girl from the clearing, or doing something to warn him. What good was a secret, if they let someone in on it?! Thankfully, Plague's displeasure at being scolded just looked like her usual grumpy self; Destiny was ignoring him, as per usual.

Rhaedalyn

Fort Weyrwoman
of Gold Aradissicath
Re: ... Busted [Rhaedalyn]
“We’re going too far, Dissi,” Rhaedalyn half-heartedly protested as they moved closer to the northern mountains. It hadn’t even been a month since she was allowed to start riding on the dragon as Aradissicath took her daily flights. They enjoyed leisurely flights around the circumference of the Weyr at first and then moved on to flying laps over the river, and even did a few trips to the lake but the mountains seemed so far away!

We’re fine! You’re very light and it’s good to push ourselves a little more each day. The gold was the one doing all the work so Rhaedalyn didn’t feel right in correcting her. Aradissicath would know best, right? R’nya probably wouldn’t appreciate them wandering off so far without an escort since he seemed to worry in his own way. V’zire would likely pale at the idea that she went on such wonderful adventures alone with her dragon but she felt so safe with Aradissicath! Her confidence boosted a bit more when the gold was near her as well, especially when they were flying. It was such a wonderful sense of freedom and while she had known for quite some time what it felt like to fly thanks to her friends that were dragonriders, Rhaedalyn loved it even more on her own. It felt exactly like how she imagined and when she closed her eyes, the two of them were one and it almost felt like she herself was the one soaring through the clouds.

I need to rest now, Aradissicath hated to ruin her rider’s fun and lovely thoughts but she was growing tired and now that the mountains were reached, she felt it was a good time to land and rest for a bit. Rhaedalyn had been instructed to bring a snack so they could spend several hours away together. They wouldn’t be missed until dark. They always told their Weyrlingmaster when they were leaving and promised to return before the sun touched the horizon but Aradissicath also always secretly informed Xyreith as well. She didn’t want the bronze thinking they were checking in with him but he was a reliable friend and a friend was always nice to keep in the loop.

As they landed in a clearing, Rhaedalyn’s fair of flitters appeared around her. She giggled as Rumour and Muffin continued to play while Whisper landed neatly on Aradissicath’s head. They had kept pace for a while before going off to fly on their own. It was good to see them find their way back and all seem okay. After carefully sliding to the ground, Rhaedalyn removed all of the riding gear to give her dragon some freedom while she relaxed for a bit. Just like how she didn’t like wearing her own riding gear longer than she had to, Rhaedalyn knew it had to be worse for a dragon to have any such confines placed on them.

“This is a lovely area,” she commented absently as she set everything down and looked around. It could make for a nice getaway spot when they craved time away from everyone so they could simply dream and be themselves without any pressure and demands of the day. A content sigh was given before Aradissicath’s squawk of alarm caught Rhaedalyn’s attention and she looked up to see someone falling and a dragon chasing after him.

She gasped and covered her mouth, as if afraid breathing would break the dragon’s concentration. It felt like a life time passed before the falling pair were reunited and safely on the ground. It was only then that the shock of who almost hit the ground hard at her feet was. Rhaedalyn shook with the fear and unshed tears as Z’ia had his exchange with Aveleth. How could such a skilled rider fall? What if Aveleth hadn’t caught him? No one would have known what happened when the dragons started keening.

Hush, girl. None of those thoughts. Both are well, if a little shaken themselves. But look, and listen. Aradissicath nudged Rhaedalyn on the shoulder to soothe the sobs that were so close to breaking free before the girl finally realized that Z’ia didn’t seem upset that he had fallen but more so that Aveleth’s focus had shifted. And wait, “…busted?” Her voice was light and a little shaky but it came out clear enough for her confusion to be heard. What did he mean?

We are friends, Aveleth, are we not? It’s rude to hide on a friend like that. Aradissicath lightly teased the blue dragon, trying to coax him into relaxing around them once again. He was very high strung but such a sweet male. Still, she stayed standing near Rhaedalyn and made no move toward the blue pair at the moment. They both seemed spooked and she didn’t want to cause further distress. It was too lovely a day for so many negative emotions!

Z'ia

Wingrider
of Blue Aveleth
Re: ... Busted [Rhaedalyn]

It was only years of dedication and a general inability to be surprised by those that were around him that saved Z'ia from gawking at Rhaedalyn in surprise when she mumbled her question, the tiny bluerider pausing for a moment as internal gears spun at top speed. He had expected a lot of responses - mostly something in line with what he had gotten from D'hys; a sound scolding and then a laugh - but he hadn't expected the blank stupidity of the girl's ignorance. How thick was the little golden whore? Did he have to spell out everything for her? Perhaps her curls were too heavy and were blocking her ears - though they certainly weren't blocking her eyes. Idiot.

"Um," Z'ia opted to go with playing his own version of dumb-but-adorable and fidgeted slightly, refusing to meet the girl's eyes. Instead he stared in the vague direction of her toes. "Welll, you see..." Z'ia continued fidgeting, his voice near as meek as his dragon - who was still trembling, and doing his best to hide behind Z'ia. "It's complicated?" The meek, subdued and slightly anxious way the bluerider spoke was impossibly pathetic, and he withdrew in on himself with huge green eyes finally staring up at Rhaedalyn. His expression blanched visibly when Aveleth stuttered out his input. H-he jum- but I- Z'ia- him a-a catch. the blue's voice was incredibly soft, but reached out to both the girls, stuttering and unfocused in his fear.

Z'ia flushed crimson, but his attention turned to Aveleth as he petted the young dragon's face with gentle croons and soft love, kissing him on the nose as soothing fingers danced over Aveleth's eye ridges. His voice was still a soft, reassuring croon when he spoke to Rhaedalyn, but his attention was fully on his lifemate. "I jumped," he purred softly, soothing Aveleth still. "It's why we came out here. Hmm, see?" Hs focus had clearly changed to Aveleth. "It's okay, Kiddo. We're okay. Don't worry, my sweet. It's okay." Aveleth's increasing concern that Rhaedalyn would tell the world what they had been doing was quickly soothed away by Z'ia. Rhaedalyn was a foolish girl with too many stories in her mind. Who would believe her? Especially when the stars of her story, Z'ia - so sweet and cute - and Aveleth - so adorably timid - were sky diving? No one would buy that!

Z'ia's green eyes returned to Rhaedalyn and Aradissicath, clear and bright, but still filled with worry, as he hugged Aveleth's nose, the young blue still trembling. Releasing him gently, Z'ia hesitated visibly for several moments before stepping forward, one hand resting lightly on Aveleth's cheek as the blue kept pace with him. "I'm sorry we frightened you," Z'ia said softly, looking honestly upset and sincere in his apology. The fact that he wanted to roll his eyes at the teary looking girl was carefully hidden, especially from Aveleth. Bloody women, and their crying at the drop of a hat! (Or free falling blueriders!)

Trembling from head to toe and looking as if he sincerely expected Aradissicath to knock him over and pin him down by the throat for allowing his rider to become so endangered, and for frightening her and her own bonded Aveleth slithered forward submissively. A whispery, terrified mew of apology wrangled free from his throat, terrified eyes never leaving Aradissicath's face as he timidly extended his nose in apology. He hadn't meant to frighten anyone! He just wanted to make his rider happy! Free falling was one of the only things that brought Z'ia true enjoyment that didn't bring someone else pain.

And then they'd gone and hurt the gold pair in their doing of their most innocent activity! He couldn't do anything right! Z'ia trembled under the flood of Aveleth's guilt, but resisted for the moment smothering the blue in reassurance.

Rhaedalyn

Fort Weyrwoman
of Gold Aradissicath
Re: ... Busted [Rhaedalyn]
Rhaedalyn took half a step forward before catching herself. She had been so relieved Z’ia was fine that she almost ran to hug him as if he were a friend like V’zire or R’nya. It wouldn’t be proper to do such a thing with the bluerider when their relationship was still blooming and given the current circumstances that brought them together, Rhaedalyn felt it was definitely the wrong time to cling to Z’ia and sob on his shoulder. Instead she wrapped her arms around Aradissicath to soothe her nerves and gain a little extra support while the words were comprehended.

He jumped willingly? Why would anyone want to do that? Wasn’t flying a thrill enough? Rhaedalyn thought the idea of free falling would be terrifying. She had complete confidence in Aradissicath making sure no harm ever befell her but it was still a big gamble to suddenly jump and enjoy the wind whipping back hair as the ground rushed up to meet you! No wonder both members of the blue pair seemed rattled. It may have been a normal routine for them but her presence had startled Aveleth enough to break his concentration which worried Z’ia and the fun fall turned into a moment of terror. She was almost responsible for the death of the man she fancied!

But he didn’t die. That shows how much of a hero he is, right? They never die in your stories. They make hurt or run into a complication but they always survive… and get the girl. The fall led him to you, right? Aradissicath’s soothing voice brushed though Rhaedalyn’s mind and the girl nodded to the dragon as she finally stepped away and straightened her tunic. “I’m sorry we startled Aveleth. I knew he was wonderful but I’m glad he’s even more amazing in the sky and recovered so well.” She meant the compliment. The blue was adored but his flying and determination was quite something to see and Rhaedalyn’s heart lifted knowing Z’ia was so well loved and protected.

Aradissicath eyed Aveleth for quite some time, unmoving as she considered him. He was a lovely fellow and it was clear he loved his rider above and beyond all else but letting the man do such foolish things? It was a hard thing to come to terms with since it was just as clear that Aveleth supported it because it made Z’ia happy no matter how risky it was. Rhaedalyn would tell stories about how some men had a daring streak and did foolish things for fun or to impress someone. This seemed like one of those instances. Z’ia was a friendly and carefree man all of the time and sought a bit of a thrill in a crazy way but it didn’t truly harm anyone and the bond between man and beast was strong enough to prove it wouldn’t be a true danger to themselves either. You should never apologise for loving your bonded and making him happy, Aradissicath spoke only to her fellow dragon, passing her judgement on him. But make sure no harm ever comes to him or it will make Rhaedalyn very sad.

Z'ia

Wingrider

Re: ... Busted [Rhaedalyn]
The half a step was not missed, though Z'ia made no comment on it and to all intents and appearances, did indeed seem oblivious to the girl's movement. He wasn't quite sure what kind of response would be behind her steps towards him, and the tiny bluerider was in no mood to be slapped silly by some ridiculous and hysterical woman. Too much effort, but most importantly, it would raise questions that he didn't want to answer. Like, why was Rhaedalyn hitting him; he also didn't want to deal with R'nya when he decided the girl attacked him because he threw himself on her. Ugh. That bronzerider needed to be disposed of, but S'kef wouldn't let him, for whatever reason.

Z'ia studied Rhaedalyn with slightly narrowed eyes, still playing on his fear and distrust of the woman keeping her blabbing mouth shut, as she spoke. Her compliment was met with a slight pursing of his lips, and a slightly heavier narrowing of the eyes, emphasising his distrust. Z'ia wanted to make sure his fear of her blabbing got through her thick skull, and was unimpressed by how much he felt he was playing up something that should have been blatantly obvious. He was also snnoyed and somewhat wary of the gold poking at his mind, though Aveleth was protective and he was well skilled, it was still a mild worry. From the things Aveleth said at random sometimes, Z'ia was quite convinced the dragon was much smarter than her human. Add in the draconian ability to poke through minds and the bluerider was suitably wary of her. He played that off as a sort of twisted respect for her size and colour.

"It's okay." His voice was low, and slowly spoken, still watching her cautiously as he reached out to pull Aveleth back from where he was suddenly staring at Aradissicath. The flash of hot read that spiked through the dragons eyes caused Z'ia to give a strong tug, looking shocked. Aveleth's eyes so rarely displayed such a strong emotion as pure anger, the little bluerider almost toppled back on his rear when th dragon sat back suddenly, lifting Z'ia in the process - since he was clinging to Aveleth's head knob and tugging on it - before the little man let go and dropped to the ground, looking utterly confused.

I would never. he didn't bother to filter his voice from Z'ia, who turned his frowning and slightly indignant look upon Aradissicath, wondering what the younger dragon had said to spike such a reaction in Aveleth. The indignant anger that was still swirling in his dragon's belly was beyond unknown to Z'ia, who had never felt his dragon ever embrace such an emotion, and his fingers were trembling slightly as he reached out to brush a hand over Aveleth's cheek. The dragon flinched terribly, before his eyes mellowed back down into a slightly horrified expression and he drew back behind Z'ia once more, not making a sound.

"Ah," the fact that Z'ia was genuinely lost for words was not lost on the man, but he had no idea how to respond or what to do. Clearly, Aradissicath had said something that insulted Aveleth, and Z'ia figured that meant she had implied something about him though his dragons words made no sense if that were the case. Z'ia's gaze flickered between gold rider and gold dragon. Kiddo? What was that? Aveleth just gave a great snort of disgust and Z'ia's eyes popped a little more before he turned to look at the gold pair, pointing his right pointer finger at the pair of them.

"You do weird things to my dragon. Stop it." Aveleth used to make sense. Now he made none. Ever. Save the girl, pretty thoughts, almost dropping him, getting angry, abandoning him to the pair and spending a day dong only the wild whers knew what... What the fuck in Faranth's great golden arse were they doing to his dragon? Z'ia pouted spectacularly at Rhaedalyn.

iPad of doom.

Re: ... Busted [Rhaedalyn]

A shiver of fear ran down Rhaedalyn’s spine as she caught the way Aveleth’s eyes flashed red. They had upset the calm blue somehow and she felt completely horrible for doing so. Everything she said was replayed but nothing truly stood out as being insensitive or worth snapping at her about, which meant the dragons had been talking and Aradissicath said something wrong. She didn’t get the chance to question her dragon before Z’ia was accusing her of doing weird things to Aveleth.

Two steps back were stumblingly taken as Rhaedalyn shrank under the anger and accusation the blue pair held for them. She hadn’t known they would be in the mountains! She hadn’t known they had a dangerous hobby! She hadn’t meant to scare them or insult them in any way! Then tell them that. Aradissicath was not in a good mood as she sat still and eyed the blue dragon. She had meant no insult with her comment as she was only looking out for her rider as Aveleth looked out for his. She had only meant to make the connection their riders shared more obvious. If Z’ia was hurt, it would hurt Rhaedalyn as well. Some dragons were just far too sensitive!

“I,” Rhaedalyn hesitated on speaking her mind. Not only was Z’ia a man with some level of rank, but he was the one her heart beat faster for. She was supposed to compliment him, not yell at him! But she didn’t like being falsely accused and left in the dark like she was feeling now. No one really seemed interested in talking to her and she was done with that. “I don’t do it purposely! I’m only being me and I’m sorry that seems to confuse you and make your dragon act strange. I also didn’t know you liked to fall from the sky in the mountain and if I did, I wouldn’t have shown up here to be such a burden. You just go on continuing to jump and have your fun. I’m leaving.”

Rhaedalyn turned on her heal and stomped three steps away before stopping and turning back to glare at Z’ia and Aveleth, “I’m not stupid, you know. I know not to tell anyone what I saw today.” Turning quickly once more, sending her hair swirling around her head, Rhaedalyn started her stomping again until she remembered she didn’t know the area and they had landed in that clearing so it was best if they took off from it as well. Not to mention she still had to put the gear back on Aradissicath. At least her emotions had led her to the pile of gear and not in the opposite direction. She’d be utterly mortified if she stated she wasn’t stupid and then walked away from everything she needed.

She needed Z’ia as well though and she had walked away from him. Tears wanted to spill over how upset she was to be intimidated by a dragon she thought was so kind and with herself for snapping at them like that. She wouldn’t cry; not now. Crying was something for her pillow while she was alone. Rhaedalyn focused on the task of checking over the riding gear to keep herself from giving in to the urge and was thankful for Aradissicath’s clumsiness making her smile. Her poor dragon had grown quite a bit and that was the only thing Rhaedalyn could think of as the reason for her jarring landings, continued nose dives into the sand, and wings or tail whacking things, like a wing did then as she flared them out in a demonstration of size and power, brushing against a tree that was closer than expected as she turned to saunter the few paces to where Rhaedalyn stood waiting.

Aveleth's anger vanished, puffing like a cloud of smoke and whipping away when Rhaedalyn reacted, the young dragon's eyes widened dramatically and twisted into a swirling display of distress. He hadn't meant to upset anyone! Honestly, he hadn't, and shame rippled through his blue belly like a vicious, venomous snake. Aveleth sunk to the ground, whimpering so low it was barely audible. He'd ruined everything!

Z'ia watched the show in silence. He wasn't quite sure how to respond to the word spew that toppled from the young woman's lips, mostly because his deepest desire was to hit her around the face for being such a fool, then laugh at her expression - for surely such a stupid girl would have no idea what she had done to deserve to be punished. It was so desperately desirable, too, and Z'ia dropped his gas to hide the vicious glint that flickered through his eyes. Aveleth was still determined he 'save' the stupid woman, and while the dragon wouldn't explain anything, Z'ia could feel the riddling guilt curling through his dragon, and his idea that he had ruined something.

Z'ia resisted the urge to laugh outright when Rhaedalyn proclaimed her lack of stupidity, then heaved a massive - silent! - sigh as she began stalking off once more, gaze lifting just enough to watch her in veiled amusement. Aveleth was just about dancing around in his distress, even if the blue wasn't so much as twitching a muscle. His barely audible mew of shame and sadness was silenced with a gentle stroke of Z'ia's hand over his dragond's nose. "Girl!" If she read going to act like. Spoiled child, than damn her, Z'ia would treat her like one. The blueriders face was a masterpiece of confusion and irritation as he waited for her to acknowledge him, calm steps carrying him towards the pair as Aveleth slunk along behind him.

Plague gave a shriek, the green firelizard zipping through the air to where Rhaedalyn was standing, and scolding the woman firmly for walking off, completely ignoring the three firelizards that were bonded to her. "Plague!" Z'ia's voice was exasperated as he snapped his green's name, and snatched her bodily out of the air when she came to him, clutching the little body to his chest as dark green eyes stared at Rhaedalyn. While the exasperation was still there, it was also clear the at the man was curious, and confused. "Do you have a sense of humour?" There was no accusation in the words at all, just wide eyed confusion as Z'ia came to a stop not far away, not so much as glancing at Aradissicath as he frowned at Rhaedalyn.

"You take everything so serious," the way Z'ia drawled out the last word out with an eye roll spoke volumes about how dreadfully tiresome he considered serious to be, and his disappointment that apparently Rhaedalyn was a dull person; so by giving the impression that she had seemed so much less so the last time they'd interacted! Z'ia puffed out a sigh, filling his cheeks, and shaping his mouth so the expelled air blew upwards and over his face, making his hair dance slightly. "Serious is boring!" He added, voice and features deadly serious as he stared at Rhaedalyn dramatically, wondering if she had any braincells to rub together at all. If she can't spot the funny in that, Kiddo, than she can go fuck herself and you can find someone else for me to 'save'. He was already investing more in the stupid trollop than he was interested in.

He doubted she'd be any fun at all to fuck, but fixing her lack of bed skills was the only 'saving' he was interested in. What good was a goldrider to anyone? What good was a goldrider to a bluerider? Aveleth would never fly Aradissicath, and Z'ia had spent so long avoiding being a scandal that he wasn't overly impressed by what screwing around with Rhaedalyn would bring about. S'kef would find it amusing, but putting up with R'nya would be a pain in his arsenal. Fucking women and dragons! Z'ia resisted the urge to give Aveleth a sour sideways glance; he was still staring dramatically at Rhaedalyn.

Rhaedalyn stood still as Plague chided her but her three firelizards flew around them chittering as well, showing their displeasure at the little green. The worst was Whisper as she landed on Rhaedalyn’s shoulder and squawked loudly what she thought about the green and her opinions. When Plague was nabbed and made to hush, Whisper made a noise that sounded suspiciously like laughter. Rhaedalyn bopped the gold lightly on her nose to hush her before she got too carried away as well. Her two blues settled down, both landing on Aradissicath’s back where they could keep an eye on everyone.

“I’m sorry if I don’t find the idea of you dying to be funny. The scare you gave me zapped all the humour from me,” Rhaedalyn finally replied, waiting through all of his comments about how serious and boring she was. Perhaps she should have spent more time asking Kahleena about relationships and how to win a man. She had been successfully married and even now she had a bronzerider getting cozy with her. Kahleena was fun though; not boring. Some things couldn’t be taught and Rhaedalyn had a feeling this was one of those things.

Rhaedalyn turned back to her task and ended up struggling a little with lacing up one of Aradissicath’s straps. Why was she being such a failure today? Another tug and everything finally aligned properly and Rhaedalyn gave a sharp nod of approval. You might be happy but I’m not. This is so uncomfortable, Aradissicath whined and bumped her nose against one of the straps as if trying to remove it. I know… but it’s safer for us both. Unless you want me to go jumping from your back as well. Aradissicath rumbled with laughter but shook her head. That would be a terrible idea! They could have the best timing in the world but their luck would still have something go wrong and someone would go splat.

“Really?” A slight pause as Z’ia settled his hands on his hips and frowned at Rhaedalyn dramatically, eyebrows furrowed over green eyes and lips set into a confused pout. “You’re going to just stomp off?” He eyed her retreating back, wondering if she’d turn around again or not as she wrestled with her dragon’s straps. Deciding that she wasn’t about to, Z’ia chose to bait her further, walking several steps closer to the pair while Aveleth rocked unhappily in place, watching the exchange with worried eyes. This had not been his intent for the day!

“No screaming?” He gave Aradissicath a mild look as he stepped a bit closer still, before stopping not too far from Rhaedalyn, arms lifting so his hands left his hips and instead he crossed them over his chest, and continued to frown at the girl. “No hitting or slapping or scratching or spitting?” His eyebrows rose up his face, and his eyes widened slightly. “No stamping or huffing or crying?” Another pause as he leaned forward slightly, peering up at her dramatically. “You’re just going to huff off with your nose in the air?” He leaned back, standing up straight again and stared at Rhaedalyn as if in mind altering shock.

“Are you sure you’re a girl?”

Z’ia! the bleu dragon’s shock at his human’s words might not have been shared with the two girls, but it was certainly visible on his face, in his eyes, and the way the young blue reared back to sit on his hind quarters and stare at Z’ia’s back. He could feel the quietly radiating smug coming from the bond he shared with the man, and the low thrill of adrenaline as he waited to see how much of an explosion would result from his poking and prodding of the young woman. Aveleth knew that Z’ia’s face would give away no such inner ongoings, and he expected no acknowledgement from the young man. Instead, Aveleth turned an apologetic look upon Aradissicath, withering slightly where he sat as he, too, prepared for a shitstorm to be born.

It had been tempting to cry, to scream, and to stamp her foot but she didn’t give in. It was certainly tempting to slap Z’ia as well for the way he was grilling her, nearly demanding an answer for the way she treated him which wasn’t the way in which he apparently wanted to be treated. She refrained from doing that as well though. There wasn’t a need. What good would it do? She had already told Z’ia how he had frightened her and she hadn’t meant to even come across his activity but Rhaedalyn was starting to think it didn’t matter what she or didn’t do. She’d always be in the wrong with the bluerider.

He was perfect and patient with her mess ups even if he left her confused with the way he behaved at times and Rhaedalyn thought they were starting to get along extremely well. It hadn’t been love at first sight on his end like she had dreamed it would be for so long but he didn’t hate her either. Well, he likely did now with her outburst and nearly getting him killed even if it was an accident. She wasn’t quite sure what else to say when it seemed like all of his questions were done but then he asked his final one and Rhaedalyn could only do one thing; she laughed.

“No, I’m not a girl. I’m a lady and a woman fully grown,” Rhaedalyn spoke softly but elegantly between her giggles as her hand that always instinctively went to cover her mouth as she smiled or laughed dropped away. Both hands slipped behind her back and fingers entwined, leaving herself in a relaxed and vulnerable position. It wasn’t done with everyone since it showed a level of trust and openness as she often hid behind gestures and stances.

Aradissicath held her gaze on Z’ia since he was the potential threat moving closer to her bonded. Aveleth may have had the flashing red eyes but the blue was too meek to do more than make a snippy comment to her so Rhaedalyn was safe from the dragon. Z’ia, however sweet he could be, was in an odd mood and almost seemed to be daring them to say more or strike him. It was confusing to the young gold, especially since Z’ia was supposed to be the hero in Rhaedalyn’s story and they never acted improperly! Sometimes there were misunderstandings though and that was likely the case now.

As Rhaedalyn laughed and began to handle the bluerider, Aradissicath relaxed and her eyes changed to softer colours as she regarded the human man once more. There was something endearing about him and Rhaedalyn didn’t seem able to keep a negative thought about him for long. Aveleth wouldn’t bond to an unsweetened soul either, she was confident of that and deemed everything well enough once more that smacking Z’ia with her tail wouldn’t be needed. In fact, she pointedly wrapped it under herself as she sat and watched the exchange.

“I’m also a goldrider and I believe it’s a bit rude to doubt my gender because of my current temperament, Z’ia.” She was only partly chiding the bluerider. There was a smile still on her lips and her eyes were bright with amusement. Why would he even associate all of those things to being a girl but not her decision to walk away from the mean boy and dragon? It made Rhaedalyn wonder what type of girls he grew up with but then an image of Indivara came to mind and she understood.

"Oh..." Z'ia paused to consider this for several moments, watching the giggling goldrider with a slight frown as he tilted his head, sending his own dark curls bouncing around his shoulders. Dark green eyes brightened very suddenly, and Z'ia's stance straightened up. "So you're -" What exactly Rhaedalyn was, was cut off abruptly by an inelegant and sudden sound from Aveleth, who just about knocked Z'ia off his feet in his intent to prevent the tiny man from speaking, sending Z'ia sprawling forward; the athletic young man barely managed to twirl aside so he didn't tumble into Rhaedalyn, and came to an abrupt stop on his rump by Aradissicath.

"Aveleth! The fu--Faranth, Kiddo!" huge green eyes stared up at the blue dragon who trembled suddenly as he realised what he had done, before curling in on himself with a weak creel. Z'ia climbed to his feet, brushing dirt off his arse as he tilted his head once more, frowning at Aveleth mildly as he made his way over to the dragon and crouched down by his head, gentle fingers soothing over the dragon's eye ridges. "That was unnecessary, Kiddo." Z'ia's voice was far from angry, but very clearly confused by the action his dragon had taken for some reason he couldn't figure out. He shook his head slightly when all he got in response was garbled words and anxious emotions. "Shh," Z'ia purred, standing up slowly and then sitting himself placidly on Aveleth's nose.

"You bring out the oddest responses in my dragon." There was no accusation, simply a quietly stated fact as Z'ia lifted his feet up and crossed them, sitting delicately balanced on Aveleth's nose, leaning back against his dragon's blue face as he peered up at Rhaedalyn. "I'm starting to think he fancies you." A slight smile quirked one corner of Z'ia's lips and Aveleth made a little purring sound that did little to dissuade Z'ia's opinion on the matter.

Aradissicath glanced down at the man now sitting beside her and resisted the urge to side step away from him. She was back to debating whether Z’ia was the hero of Rhaedalyn’s story or not and wondered if his apparent craziness was contagious. In the end, she continued sitting still since it would reflect poorly on her dear rider if she didn’t want to even be seen a few feet away from the man she wanted. She had standards but wasn’t going to be bitchy about them; for now. It didn’t matter since the man was quickly back on his feet and tending to Aveleth. The poor blue seemed extra fragile that day but she supposed after nearly letting his rider go splat on the ground, he was due a bit of a nervous breakdown. It was his only saving grace from being verbally assaulted by the gold.

“I’m glad. I fancy him as well. He’s so sweet,” Rhaedalyn crooned, more than a little worried she had upset the pair yet again. When it seemed like Z’ia wasn’t going to insult her or properly accuse her of anything and Aveleth didn’t look like he wanted to eat her, Rhaedalyn slowly moved towards the blue beauty and dropped to her knees by his snout. It didn’t occur to her how she looked kneeling before Z’ia since it was the dragon she was currently focused on. A light touch was given to his nose as an apology for all of the misunderstandings they had been through since appearing on the mountain as Rhaedalyn couldn’t forgive herself if they parted on bad terms. He was so kind and, more importantly, bonded to the man she fancied far more than was probably acceptable.

It would likely be an incredible scandal for a goldrider to want a bluerider. No, she supposed there were probably women in the past that had blueriders as lovers on the side but she didn’t want that. Z’ia as her mate would be far more acceptable in her mind but the Weyr, as liberal as they were on most matters, wouldn’t likely stand for that. It wasn’t like she was going to be Weyrwoman anytime soon or at all so it shouldn’t matter if she followed her heart and fell for a bluerider.

As Rhaedalyn continued the light petting and nibbling her lower lip while she thought of something to say that wouldn’t upset anyone, her firelizards circled above head. Her blues seemed to have gotten over the attitude that came from Plague and were in a more playful albeit feisty mood and finally daringly sat down on Aveleth’s back. Whisper continued her judgment from atop Aradissicath’s head, an apparent gold solidarity in place as they watched the blues. Both had also calmed again but it was such a strange situation to be in and Rhaedalyn’s nerves weren’t helping any of them truly relax.

“Do you come up here often?” Her innocence when it came to flirting and dating kept her from seeing how she sounded like she was hitting on Z’ia with a pick up line. She was simply curious about his hobbies and where he liked to spend his free time. Not that she wanted to stalk him! It was almost the opposite. If she knew when Z’ia came to the mountain to sky dive, she’d make sure she stayed away so they wouldn’t be startled again. It would be nice to be asked along though and Rhaedalyn almost gave a dreamy sigh as she thought about how wonderful that date would be. She was already in on his secret hobby but to have Z’ia ask her to come and watch him jump? It’d be perfect.

Eat you? The young dragon's voice was torn somewhere between horrified and mortified as he lifted his head up suddenly, sending his usually much more graceful rider rocking to catch his balance at the sudden movement; being in on Aveleth's thoughts only gave Z'ia half a picture, as he was missing out on what was going on in Rhaedalyn's. Naturally, his mind went down a far dirtier path than either the girl or his dragon and Z'ia burried his face in one hand as he hid the expression that would have given away his thoughts, giggling quietly at Aveleth's indignation that Z'ia could even imagine such a thing involving Rhaedalyn.

Why-but-I-... the young dragon's mind stuttered over his own thoughts, unable to vocalise them and he slowly lowered his head, creeling softly in confused concern as he stared up at Rhaedalyn sadly. Z'ia translated, lifting his head from his fingers with muffled and half swallowed giggles, green eyes sparkling in amusement. "He would never eat you," Z'ia sniggered again, the hand his face hadn't been burried in petting Aveleth gently on the nose near where the man sat. "He's very sweet," Z'ia agreed lightly, watching midly as Aveleth finally relaxed under Rhaedalyn's gentle pettings, the blue finally gaining enough courage to lift his nose and blow a gentle and affectionate breath over the girl's face. Z'ia, smirking in amusement, rolled his eyes dramatically before tossing the girl a wink.

"Hrm? ... Oh!" Z'ia shifted slightly, tilting his head as he considered Rhaedalyn thoughtfully. "Sometimes." It was clear he was hedging, and the bluerider made no attept to appear otherwise as he fidgited slightly,  playing up his 'caught-red-handed' act and blushing uncomfortably. Sometimes more than sometimes, Aveleth put in helpfully, his own voice as conflicted as Z'ia currently appeared - unsure whether to pretend they had no idea what the girl was going on about, or blurting out the whole truth, they lingered somewhere in the middle. Z'ia nodded uncomfortably in agreement with his dragon, dark curls bouncing around his face as he chewed on his bottom lip, right hand raising to tug absently on a curl.

"Do you?" It would be a pity if he had to find a new place, the one they were in currently was perfect for a variety of reasons, and Z'ia had only found it a few turns prior, after having to give up his previous spot when D'hys discovered him. His shoulders' slumped slightly and Z'ia leaned forward, palms pressed flat to Aveleth's nose as he peered down at Rhaedalyn. "Please don't tell D'hys." The fact that he sounded like a begging child galled Z'ia, but he was quite sure thinking she was some saving secret holder would do nothing but play on Rhaedalyn's odd sense of pride, and while Z'ia didn't give two hoots whether D'hys knew what he was up to or not, it would be interesting to see what the girl made of the request.

Aveleth decided it would be interesting to see what she made of a lap full of Z'ia, as he tipped his nose with a playful glance at Aradissicath, dumping his tiny rider on top of the girl; Z'ia squeaked in surprise, trying valiantly to remove himself from the girl without causing her to squawk at him in indignation - that was all he needed to do; touch a boob and have the woman deck him across the clearing!

“I’m sorry, Aveleth! I know you wouldn’t eat me. I’m sorry I thought such a thing and so loudly as well,” Rhaedalyn was so ashamed of herself for having that thought and upsetting the blue. He was quite possibly the kindest dragon she had met and it tore her heart to pieces every time he was even a bit distraught over something she had said or done. She was so horribly insensitive and thoughtless! She would have pouted over that as well if it wasn’t for her attempts to be friendly and strong before Z’ia. He was wonderful but she wasn’t sure if he wanted a wilting flower in his life so toning down the hissy fits and sad expressions over messing up had to be reduced!

A little giggle came out as Aveleth tried to explain Z’ia’s vague reply to her question. “Sometimes more than sometimes? I guess you two enjoy the area. It is quite pretty and relaxing.” Not to mention it was out of the way and it didn’t look like it would be frequented by dragons with or without their riders. It was easy to see why Z’ia liked coming to that location and why Aradissicath had selected it to rest at instead of their usual location a bit further down the mountain.

“Oh, this was our first time here. Dissi suggested it as a good place to rest before going back.” Rhaedalyn liked the clearing but she didn’t want to jeopardise anything with Z’ia, especially his health, by returning. It was clear he was worried and no doubt he’d disappear into another location to keep his hobby going. She didn’t want to be the reason he had to go elsewhere or stop his fun but it was a bit disappointing that Z’ia hadn’t asked her to come along with him to watch him properly dive and laugh as he fell freely towards the ground.

Z’ia begging her not to tell D’hys was startling enough that Rhaedalyn blinked large eyes at him and titled her head to regard him. “Why would I tell D’hys?” She didn’t hate the bluerider and wasn’t sure if she could believe any of the bits of gossip about him since she had yet to see him act cold or mean to a greenrider. He did leave her a bit unsettled since he was hard to read and did give off a vibe that said no one could penetrate his walls. “I don’t believe he’s your keeper, correct? So he doesn’t need to know your whereabouts every hour of the day.” No one else did either for that matter. It took a moment but Rhaedalyn caught the hint not to mention it to anyone. She imagined it would upset and worry a lot of people if they knew the risk Z’ia put Aveleth and himself in.

“I’ll keep this entire meeting a secret, I promise,” Rhaedalyn wished she could tell some of her friends about her time with the bluerider. It would already be hard to hide the glow and smile she’d likely return with but perhaps they’d believe it was simply due to Aradissicath flying further that day and that they had a wonderful flight. That sounded like a wonderful and believable story!

The real story was far better, though. Suddenly she had Z’ia in her lap and she squeaked with surprise but no sooner had the sound escaped than the bluerider had scrambled free. He was so quick! What had happened anyway? Had he fallen off of Aveleth’s nose or had he purposely thrown himself at her? A blush appeared on her cheeks and over his nose at the idea of Z’ia wanting such contact with her. As forward as it was, Rhaedalyn had also learned such contact wasn’t so bad thanks to her night with R’nd and wished her darling bluerider would try that again.

Her confusion and desire for more made Aradissicath chuckle and she radiated kindness to the blue dragon once more. Well played, my blue friend. She is shocked and seems to think it would be nice if it happened again. Hopefully Z’ia does so on his own in due time.

The bluerider's face was still hot with embarressment, and he raked his fingers back through his curls absently, trying to get the blushing girl to follow the change in subject before she worked herself up to asking what had just happened. Z'ia wasn't sure what story would work best there, since she didn't seem overly upset and hadn't hit him. The fact that she might have enjoyed his little visit to her lap amused Z'ia greatly, though he wasn't too surprised. After all, he was gorgeous. Tugging a curl, he backtracked a little to pick up their conversation from before he was so rudly deposited on the girl.

"Well, no," Z'ia agreed, looking incredibly bemused as he folded his legs carefully so he was sitting infront of Rhaedalyn, their knees almost touching; Aveleth wouldn't slide back further to give him more room, and Z'ia was quite sure he was going to kill the baby blue for his little prank. The fact that Aveleth was radiating a very quiet pride in his movements didn't really upset Z'ia, he rather enjoyed Aveleth's playful streak when it came out on display, but he also preferred not to be the leading star in being a figure for said playful streak.

The bluerider flashed a quick smile, one tinted with a naughty, slightly michevious air. "He, ah... caught us once. The first once, actually." Z'ia grimaced. "There might," he pinched his forefinger and thumb really close together and grimaced more. "Have been the uh, impression that I wouldn't do it again?" He had never strictly promised D'hys he wouldn't jump from Aveleth any more, so Z'ia wasn't breaking any promises he'd made; but he knew he was still going against a friend's well meaning wishes.

In time, Aveleth murmured very softly to Aradissicath, managing to make his voice little more than the vague press of emotions against Z'ia. He very rarely spoke to another dragon without including Z'ia in the exchange, mostly because he required the additional confidence, but there was also usually the need for Z'ia to translate what he had just said. Speaking without including Z'ia was almost impossible. The young blue was still worried about what would happen when Z'ia did take the innitivie and tried to 'save' the girl; but he was strongly hoping that Rhaedalyn, with her sweet thoughts and pretty nature would be able to help the young man's nature smooth out, too.

Aveleth loved Z'ia, and he understood him, far better than anyone else ever would; but he still didn't always agree with the methods the little bluerider chose. Aveleth had Impressed to Z'ia because he was strong, and confident, and someone that the blue dragonet had immediately known would protect him with every fiber of his soul - and that was what Aveleth needed - and so he had turned a blind eye to the dark streak. He didn't think even Rhaedalyn would be able to remove it, but if the girl could brighten it a little... More realistically, Aveleth knew Z'ia was far more likely to taint the girl, though.

Re: ... Busted [Rhaedalyn]

“Then we’ll have to make sure he doesn’t get the impression that it’s still happening,” Rhaedalyn gave one solid nod of her head as if to make her decision final and there was no room for argument. She was torn on the entire situation anyway so why not just go with the flow and let the bluerider continue enjoying what he liked? It worried Rhaedalyn and left her afraid of what might happen if they slipped up one day and Aveleth couldn’t catch the petite rider but how could she deny someone their fun when it wasn’t hurting anyone else and their own risk was minimal? D’hys was likely in the same boat as her so keeping him in the dark was a kindness and kept some stress off the older man.

Yet, with how confident she sounded in making that decision, Rhaedalyn was still completely shy and unsure of herself around Z’ia. The conversation could only carry on for so long and now it seemed to have hit the ending point. What did they talk about now? Should she start a topic or wait for Z’ia to say something? Should she do something? A part of her wanted to be as daring as she was when with her friends and simply hug the bluerider or grab his hand but that would be far too forward! When it was done with friends, it was something fun and innocent. When with a man you fancied, it was viewed entirely differently. Why? You like him and you like your friends so why should that change how you act around people?

Rhaedalyn wasn’t quite sure how to answer that. It simply felt different to her so it had to be seen as different as well, right? In the end, it was the unknown that kept her hands to herself. If Z’ia for some strange reason didn’t like her in return, then she’d only make him draw away from her with an unwanted touch. So she continued to sit pretty, doing her best not to smile at their close proximity. She could wait for Z’ia to move them along. It wasn’t very lady-like to rush into anything anyway.

Whisper didn’t feel the same way as Rhaedalyn. The gold firelizard had enough of the tip-toeing that was happening and now that she was over the fuss of earlier, glided down from Aradissicath’s head to land in Z’ia’s lap. She looked at Plague and silently dared the cranky green to do something about it before looking up at Z’ia expectantly for pettings. Rhaedalyn gawked at the gold. Whisper only ever really intruded on R’nya’s personal space but she seemed content to pester Z’ia now as well. “I’m sorry about her,” Rhaedalyn tried to shoo Whisper from the lap she had claimed before a fight broke out between the firelizards but the gold had no inclination to move just yet and continued waiting for everyone else’s reactions.

She seems to be taking matters into her own hands, like you, Aveleth. Aradissicath teased lightly, talking only to the blue dragon.

Re: ... Busted [Rhaedalyn]

Z'ia beamed at Rhaedalyn, expression bright and cheerful as she nodded firmly, apparently thrilled by her agreement that D'hys wouldn't find out about his little habit. Inwardly, Z'ia was inclined to laugh outright at her bizarre mannerism and the ridiculous head bob, but hey, he'd work with what he had. The bluerider giggled softly, flicking his hair out of his face again before frowning slightly and then pulling back the top and sides, plaiting them into a braid. The heavily curled strands stayed as he forced them, and his hands dropped back into his lap, fingers twining as he continued to grin at Rheadalyn, face curl free.

"Ahh," Z'ia's eyes widened dramatically as the little gold firelizard landed in his lap and demanded a petting, the bluerider's hands releasing and lifting rapidly to shoulder height; he wasn't afraid of the gold in his lap, which was made quite clear from the way he was eyeing Plague sideways, more than a little worried by the furious emotions rolling off the little green - her eyes were a furious and intese red, and her wings were half extended in a furious display of rage, but she didn't move. Instead, she continued to stare hotly down at Whisper, and Z'ia was quite sure if he so much as imagined touching the gold firelizard, he would lose his pretty face, and his hair, and probably his life.

Plague is not pleased, Aveleth put in mildly, speaking to both the other girls, his nose shifting to snuffle at Z'ia's shoulder, breathing warm air over the irate firelizard. She didn't so much as twitch, while Z'ia appeared to be still frozen as he waited to see how the world would end; would it be a huge explosion? His features, however, were twisted into a mischevious expression and he was eyeing Plague with a smug, knowing look as he sat there. He was clearly tempted to test her jealousy, but just as clearly rather enjoyed his physical health. "Plague," Z'ia purred out the word, his tone sugary sweet and reassuring as he tilted his chin slightly and looked at his green firelizard curiously. Her poisonous green body was trembling in outrage.

"Baby girl, you're not jealous, are you?" Green eyes sparkled as he watched the firelizard turn her gaze ever so slowly to look at him, and Z'ia blinked innocently when she settled that vicious and unsettling gaze upon him. He paused for a moment, before darting forward to place a light kiss on Plague's nose; the tiny firelizard squawked in surprise and then bat at Z'ia's face with one foot, grumbling with little sounds as she settled herself back on his shoulder more placidly, sticking her nose in the air and ignoring Whisper as she buried herself in Z'ia's hair. Smiling smugly, Z'ia lowered his hands, and stroked one finger down Whisper's spine. Girls were so ridiculous! Plague bit him on the back of the neck, and Z'ia's shoulders jerked slightly before he rolled them and shook his head slightly.

Turning his attention back to Rhaedalyn, Z'ia smiled slightly. "Do you like berries?"

I don’t think the little gold cares, Aradissicath supplied to Aveleth as she watched the firelizards with amusement swirling brightly in her eyes. Whisper held her ground despite Plague’s death glare and patiently waited for the petting she knew she would receive. When it finally came in a small stroke, she radiated snugness and pushed the amusing little green’s buttons all the more by curling up in Z’ia’s lap. She was quite content where she was, thank you! Rhaedalyn just stared at her firelizard and decided that at least all three of hers hadn’t thought Z’ia looked like the perfect perching post. He didn’t seem to mind too much either now that Plague hadn’t eaten anyone so she left the gold where she was for a moment longer.

“I do! Who doesn’t like berries?” Rhaedalyn easily switched subjects, not finding the question strange after the antics of the flitters. It was an easy transition and it was about something that she liked and knew a bit about – like how sweet and delicious they were and how they made wonderful pies. Well, wonderful pies that others made. Her attempts at pies were still a bit lacking but she felt there had been some improvement and her friends didn’t seem to cringe now when she made them try.

Rhaedalyn cocked her head to the side, “why do you ask?” Did Z’ia have some with him that he was offering to share with her? Her heart fluttered at such a thought. That would be truly wonderful! It would almost be counted as a date if he did such a thing or even as a gift. Maybe he didn’t have the berries yet and wanted to take her out to pick some. That would certainly count as a date then! Thankfully, too much time around R’nya had taught her to school some of her expressions and her excitement wasn’t etched into her features and only her curiosity continued to show. For the moment, anyway. Any longer and she’d likely burst.

"Beautiful!" Z'ia bounced to his feet gracefully when Rhaedalyn replied, landing lightly on the balls of his feet and offering the girl a hand to pull her up from the ground. Plague was used to such unexpected movements from her human, and chittered smugly when Whisper was flung unexpectedly from his lap; Z'ia had completely forgotten about the little gold in his excitement, and only blinked in surprise at the response he recieved. The little bluerider ignored the gold firelizard as he bounced slightly on the spot.

"There are some bushes not far away. They might have some summer berries on them." Berries were something that Z'ia was pretty sure always seemed to be stuck on the bushes. He'd noted that some appeared in abundance during different seasons, naturally, but from the start of summer until just before winter, it was almost as if every berry on Pern made it its personal mission to bloom into delicious little baubles at some point. Berries were fantastic. Cinnamon is better... Z'ia giggled out a soft laugh and turned to pat Aveleth on the nose lightly, amused.

Turnign back to Rhaedalyn, Z'ia flashed a bright smile and began a bouncing almost skipping walk toward a location he knew berries had been growing in recently. He had no idea what type of berry they were, only thtat they tasted good, hadn't given him a belly ache and, - most importantly - hadn't killed him. "There are some good ones over here!" Still bouncing along, Z'ia turned to face Rhaedalyn and the two dragons before returning his attention to what direction he was bounding along in. When he reached the treeline, teh bluerider flung a mischevious look back over his shoulder at the girl and the two dragons, and then vanished amongst the trunks. Aveleth snorted in amusment.

He's hiding, he warned, clearly amused as he paused at the edge of the trees. There were gaps between them, but Aveleth was far too timid to push his blue hide through, despite the fact that he could have fit. A glance at Aradissicath and Aveleth would have felt rude to do so, at any rate; the gold dragon would never fit. She was slimmer than he, but the added length (and, without being mean) her rather uncooridinated nature would wind up with a mess occurring. He'd hate for her to get hurt! So, Aveleth found himself a nice spot, and settled his blue hide down under the dappled shade.

His attention shifted back to the two girls; He is terrible at playing hide and seek. "I am not!" See? Amusement rolled off Aveleth as Z'ia's indignant retort still echoed mildly between the trees.

Rhaedalyn didn’t notice Whisper’s indignant squeaks at being dumped so ineloquently since Z’ia was offering his hand to her. Somehow, she managed to not only gawk and drool over the sweet gesture, she managed to smile sweetly and thank him softly for the courtesy. He was such a gentleman! An enthusiastic gentleman, at that! She loved the way he lit up over her enjoyment of berries and not only did he know where some were, he wanted to show her and share!

Practically floating on air, Rhaedalyn followed behind Z’ia with a giggle escaping every few steps. “I can’t wait to try them,” she was so excited! This was like a wonderful fantasy date come true! It had started out horribly what with the near death scare and their fight but it was so romantic and perfect now that Rhaedalyn easily forgave everything before and was fine pretending it didn’t even exist. That was certainly one way to ensure she didn’t tell D’hys!

She came to a stop when Z’ia disappeared into the trees and a laugh answered Aveleth’s explanation. “That’s adorable,” she whispered, hoping only the dragons heard her and not the rider. That would be so embarrassing! It’s good to compliment him, isn’t it? The gold had a point but Rhaedalyn wasn’t sure if calling a man adorable was actually a compliment or an insult so she continued to hope he hadn’t heard.

“Well, if he’s hiding, then he needs to be found,” Rhaedalyn nearly sung the words as she looked over her shoulder at the dragons that were making themselves comfortable. They may not have been interested in going any further because of their size, but she certainly was! Aradissicath gave her a head nod to encourage her going in while Whisper and Rumour took up places with the dragons to keep an eye out from a far. Muffin appeared at her side to join in the fun. He was all about games and playing hide and seek was one of his favourites – besides leading Rhaedalyn in a game of chase, anyway.

“Z’ia?” Rhaedalyn called out softly as she stepped between a pair of trees and looked around for the bluerider. She knew he wouldn’t reply if he truly was hiding on her but she couldn’t resist calling out to him. Even playing such a game was romanticized in her mind and Rhaedalyn was almost beaming from how happy she was. Kahleena would be so jealous of her outing! It was so much fun and building into the perfect day.

Great Faranth, the girl was beyond annoying! Z'ia wsa sure he couldn't walk three steps before she was giggling again. If he weren't so confident in himself, the tiny bluerider would have been hard pressed not to be convinced there was something all over his arse or his hair or - something. Being giggled at as he pranced along was hardly enjoyable, but Z'ia brushed it off; the girl was so wrapped up in her giggly girliness, he was quite sure she was excited because 'squee, berries!' rather than 'omg, Z'ia has a squished bug on his butt'. The bluerider giggled to himself as he watched the girl linger on the edge of the trees, looking startled.

The tiny bluerider couldn't hear the girl's whisper, as he had immediately shot up into the upper branches of the closest tree, and went leaping across to the next tree, keeping an eye on the little goldrider with a wide and smirk-esque grin. The sing-song words were heard, however, and Z'ia laughed softly, not afraid of the sound being heard as he watched her move into the trees, and went skuttling along a branch himself before swapping trees with a leap, and moved on to the next one.

"Rhaaaaaayyyyyy-dalynnnn," Z'ia sing-songed back to the girl's questioning of his name, skittering through the trees until he was back behind her - the call having come out from in front of the goldrider - and he peered down, watching with amusement as she wandered through the dappled shade of the large trees. He followed behind her, quiet now despite any calls she might let out, seeking his response. He waited, just long enough to see the beginnings of faltering courage, before quietly dropping down the tree's trunk, and creeping up on the girl.

Slipping up behind her, Z'ia's fingers reached out to lightly place themselves over the girl's face, and he whispered a playful, "Guess who!" while remaining ready to bounce out of the way of attacks, eyes sparkling playfully. He was quite expecting screaming, flailing or even crying, but he waited with a playful and engaged look on his face, as if he were actually expecting nothing more than a giggle at his antics. You're trying to frighten her, Aveleth's voice was somewhere between disapointed and upset. Z'ia gave a mental shrug; I'm testing her limits.

Rhaedalyn frowned as she came to a stop, gaze sweeping over the area around her as she turned in a slow circle. Where had Z’ia disappeared to? She could have sworn she heard him in one direction but then it seemed like he was suddenly over in the opposite direction. Directions were already a weak area with her but Rhaedalyn didn’t think her hearing was so horrible as well! Maybe it was echoes she was hearing and if she paid enough attention to the sounds, she could figure everything out. An attempt was given with eyes closing since she had heard once before that dulling one sense helped increase another. So if she couldn’t see, then her listening skills increased, right?

When that didn’t seem to help any, especially since Z’ia stopped answering her, Rhaedalyn started to walk around the trees again, hoping to find the bluerider. She was starting to get worried and even a tad confused about what happened. Had he slipped back out of the forest to hop on Aveleth and leave her lost amongst the trees? It was hard to think Aradissicath would let that happen and she didn’t think the kind blue dragon would be a part of that either but it was always hard to tell what someone would do. Z’ia was playful and it could all be a game to her.

The sudden hands over her face made her scream in surprise and while the voice was heard, it was heard too late and on reflex, her right elbow went flying back where it jabbed her attacker in the stomach. With a gasp, Rhaedalyn spun around and stared in shock at Z’ia. “I’m so sorry!”

The scream had been expected, even the physical reaction of an attack had been anticipated, but Z’ia hadn’t expected it to come from that particular side; he had indeed ended up leaning more to one side than the other, and Rhaedalyn’s reaction landed an elbow perfectly in Z’ia’s stomach, just below the breastbone and had the tiny bluerider winded. Huge green eyes welled with tears as he fought to get a breath in against the body’s desire, holding one hand up slightly when Rhaedalyn started fussing. He could feel Aveleth bouncing around anxiously on the other side of the trees, but everything was dulled in comparison to the burning sensation and the need to teach his lungs how to breathe again.

Z’ia? Z’ia! A-are you okay? Z’ia? a mew of distress came from the young blue as he continued to shift anxiously in the clearing, separated by the trees from his rider. Z’ia’s thoughts were choppy, and all Aveleth could really pick up was the radiating pain that felt like it was even coming from his chest, burning through his lungs. Was his rider dying? Had the pretty girl killed him? Aveleth gave a shriek, the idea running away on him, and his wings unfurled as he anxiously eyed off the edge of the trees, forgetting about Aradissicath in his anxiety. Z’ia! It was a screech of despair, but it was also a terrified creel for reassurance.

“I- I’m okay!” The words came out weak and garbled, but the emotion behind them was effective as Z’ia waved his hand at Rhaedalyn again, before wiping his face, removing the tears that had tracked down his face pitifully in reaction to her well-aimed attack. “I’m okay. Aveleth. Aveleth, I’m fine.” There was slight terror behind Z’ia’s words, as he fought to breathe, and to calm Aveleth down before the dragon responded to his dramatic train of thoughts by suiciding, convinced Z’ia was dead. Rhaedalyn’s hand was grabbed without much thought, and Z’ia took off through the trees back to where the dragons were, dragging Rhaedalyn along behind him.

The girl’s hand was dropped when Aveleth was spotted, Z’ia sprinting the last few feet to throw himself at his dragon’s nose, arms warping around it as he hugged Aveleth tightly. “I’m okay, see? See, I’m fine, Shhh,” he was crying, the power of Aveleth’s terror crushing him in the close proximity. The blue dragon’s eyes were white with terror, nostrils flared and entire blue body trembling from head to toe. “I’m so sorry, Kiddo. I’m sorry, it’s okay, see? Everything is fine, see? All good. Just me being silly. I’m so sorry. Shh, Kiddo. There you go. I’m fine! I promise, see. Are you okay? Hrmm? There you go,”  Z’ia’s murmuring baby talk slowly faded away as Aveleth calmed, his trembling not quite stopping though his eyes returned to murky colours that Z’ia found much more reassuring.

Until Aveleth reminded him of Rhaedalyn, and Z’ia turned, horrified, to search out the girl. He had picked up enough to know the girl would blame herself for everything. Releasing Aveleth’s nose, Z’ia took three steps towards the girl, holding one hand out desperately. “I’m so sorry, Rhaedalyn.” Desperate green eyes stared at the girl; he needed to win her back over, convince her it wasn’t her fault… something… Even though Z’ia was more than happy to blame the idiot woman and her stupid elbow, for everything (that had fucking hurt, never mind poor Aveleth’s terror!) but he was quite sure he didn’t want that idiot bronzerider giving him an earful.

Fucking women, couldn’t they not screw up anything?

Rhaedalyn stumbled through the forest after Z’ia, tears starting to fall down her cheeks as the dread over what she had done and the affects it had caused sank in. She had attacked the bluerider she was so fond of and it had hurt him enough that it upset Aveleth. She never meant to hurt or scare either of them! Aveleth was possibly the gentlest soul she had ever met and the implications of what his terror could mean terrified the young woman to the point where she was holding her breath to keep from blubbering and hiccupping from how upset she was.

It didn’t matter how sweet Z’ia was as he hugged and comforted his dear dragon or how much relief flooded through her as Aveleth seemed to calm down and pose no risk of vanishing forever on them, Rhaedalyn was still afraid of what was about to come. She was going to get yelled at, maybe even smacked around for what she had done. Any type of abuse on a dragon was a horrible crime and the rider had a right to defend the typically passive beasts. When Z’ia finally took a step towards her, Rhaedalyn instinctively took a step back. The next two steps saw her repeat the motion, cheeks wet with tears and lower lip trembling still as she held back the wailing cries.

She stared at the hand held out to her, desperately wanting to grab it but she was still afraid of what it might do to her. It had already dragged her back to the clearing and surely it could level a solid smack to her cheek as well. It was obvious Aveleth would always be number one in Z’ia’s heart and while Rhaedalyn respected that and even understood it on some level thanks to her bond with Aradissicath, she also believed there was always room in the heart for a mate. She wasn’t sure if Z’ia felt the same since she suspected Aveleth would always come first and if she slipped up and hurt him or startled him again, it’d be all over for her. It was such a horrible idea that the trembling lip turned into her entire body beginning to tremble.

In the end, however, she went with her heart and slowly shuffled forward again and placed her hand in Z’ia’s. “I’m sorry, Z’ia. I’m sorry, Aveleth.” The words were no more than a whisper but filled with all the sincerity Rhaedalyn was filled with. She felt horrible for what she had done, so much so that she didn’t notice the way Aradissicath had remained surprisingly quiet the entire time or the way the gold dragon carefully watched everyone. She wasn’t happy with the blue pair again and wanted nothing more than to sit on them both for making her dear girl cry. There was also the desire to yell at Aveleth to learn the difference between passing pain and something far more severe. Really, did he have to cause such a fuss over what wouldn’t even be a bruise?

Z’ia shook his head slightly, curls bouncing around his face, “no, I am sorry.” And he was, but not that he had upset Rhaedalyn, though the words were designed to reassure the woman in the process. No, he was sorry that his thoughtless actions had resulted in distressing his dragon so much that the poor creature had had a panic attack. Z’ia went out of his way to make sure Aveleth was never distressed by his actions, though he was not particularly good at it; Z’ia did not always think through what type of consequences his actions would have on his dragon. Despite the years they had been together, Z’ia still wasn’t used to Aveleth’s tender nature, and the way his poor blue could react to some things that Z’ia would never in his worst nightmares consider something to even think about, let alone be a trigger to such terrified panic.

“I was at fault; I am so sorry.” A concerned and distressed frown marred Z’ia’s usually carefree features, eyebrows pulled together over red-rimmed eye; he could feel the salty itch from the tear tracks left on his face because of the onslaught of Aveleth’s emotions. Green eyes studied Rhaedalyn and her clear distress – the stupid woman was clearly as delicate as his beautiful dragon. Z’ia would have tossed her aside in that moment and taken his dragon home, and away from so much trouble, if it weren’t for the blue’s whispery voice in the far recesses of his mind, with a terribly soft ‘you promised’ that carried all the weight of Aveleth’s sorrow on it.

Z’ia still had no idea how he was supposed to ‘save’ the girl before him, and at that particular moment he was far more inclined to throw her between and be rid of what was suddenly being viewed as a danger to his dragon. How under the Red Star did someone save a person they’d much rather destroy? What a terribly bizarre situation and Z’ia resisted the urge with great determination to turn and glare at his dragon. Instead, he gave Rhaedalyn’s hand a gentle tug to pull the girl down to the ground with him, his own legs folding under himself as he sat down. When he was seated, Z’ia flopped backwards, tugging on Rhaedalyn’s hand again to drag her down with him.

He did not look at her, but stared up at the sky with dark green eyes, watching the clouds shuffle absently across it, before the scene was blocked out by Aveleth’s rather large blue nose being shoved in Z’ia’s face. The young man blinked, before frowning at Aveleth good naturedly, though his voice was as whispery and shaky as Aveleth’s when he spoke. “You’re blocking the sky, Kiddo. Lay down.” The dragon seemed content to do that, cowering away from Aradissicath as he slunk over to the two humans, and carefully settled himself down lengthwise at Z’ia’s side. Aveleth didn’t need to be aware of Aradissicath’s disdain for his behaviour, to be feeling spectacularly self-conscious and terribly upset about everything, his eyes a distraught colour as his gaze switched rapidly from Z’ia to Rhaedalyn to Aradissicath’s toes  (he was much too afraid to look at her face) and back to Z’ia with great desperation.

Z’ia, for his part, took a deep, calming breath and then pointed to a cloud with the slightly shaking hand that was not still holding onto Rhaedalyn’s. “That one looks like a flower.” His voice was a low murmur. Such quiet and relaxing games were not in Z’ia’s usual rapport, but the bluerider had not been expecting Aveleth’s terror, and was having more than a little difficulty returning to himself; he was working quite hard not to puke.
