So Totally Rocks [Casa]

Quenym and his gang of brats had laid low for a while now. They had run the risk of getting into serious trouble a while back, and he had given orders to try and quit some of the trouble while they were ahead. After all, it wouldn't do to be barred from the Sands! Especially not now. The thought made his stomach turn.

Because Mdae would be Standing with them this time. He really, really wand and hoped that she would Impress. And that he would Impress right along with her. That way they could both be Weyrlings together, and life would be good.

He worried that a dragon would mean that they would be apart somehow. A wedge. And he didn't want to Impress without her. Vice-versa would be even worse. What if she got a dragon and started flying before him? Not that he minded her flying or anything, but he wanted to be there with her during it all. They were best friends.

He wanted to do everything together with her.

And right now, that meant getting into a bit of trouble. He couldn't stop the grin that had taken over his face. This one was a prank to beat all pranks! Quenym hefted the sack over his shoulder once more, the contents rattling with a noise that worried him. He didn't want anyone to wake up and spoil the whole thing! That would be terrible! He glanced at Casa and reached over to grasp her hand tightly. "Just a few more to go," he whispered, leaning in close. "You got the rocks for the next pile?"

They had been going around, leaving brightly-painted rocks on various piles and places. Some had been disguised as fruits and eggs and placed among the real things. They had even managed rather large ones on the Sands, looking for the world like a dragon had laid the most outrageous things ever. But for the most part, they were just random piles in the hallways and rooms, just waiting for people to look upon them and stare.

Casa had been surprisingly bogged down as of late. It was like the Weyr knew she and Quenym had made huge plans, and had conspired to keep them apart and away and BUSY. After his birthday - a hint of color rose in her cheeks, and she frowned while trying to fight down a big, dumb grin - they had been away from one another. But she hated it, every moment of it. She adored Quenym, and could hardly stand being away from him.

Well, it was time it stopped. When they had finally gotten together and discussed the rocks, it was just like old times all over again. Casa had been so relieved they had bounced right back without missing a beat. That told her he really was her truly best friend. When he had gone over the plan, she was delighted and pleased and jumped right on board.

For weeks, they had gathered rocks from all over - the Gathering square, the river, even ones that tumbled down from the mountains. It was easy to get them all in one place, considering their chores pretty much sent them all over. As they hoarded them, painstakingly painting each one, her adoration of her best friend jumped by leaps and bounds. And now the fruition of their plans...the rocks were being planted.

Stalking along quietly, she grinned from ear to ear, her hands absolutely full of eggs. These ones were a garish blue and green, and she carefully settled them down, arranging them just so. As she saw them there, standing out sorely, she was hard pressed to force her giggle away, her eyes all but watering. She sniggered and nodded at him, trailing after him as she gasped out a quick "Your turn!"

Quenym was more than delighted at the expression on Casa's face. When they had finally been able to get together after a long while being busy - who the heck thought up that new chore roster anyway?! - it had felt like they had been apart for epyears, not just a few weeks. He had even gone so far as hugging her.

That had made his dreams the next night fairly interestingly Quenym frowned for the barest moment, he was going to have to talk to someone about this. He knew it was normal and wasn't totally ignorant about the mechanics of puberty, but that was the physical. He wanted to know what it meant to be a man. He wanted to be a man for Casa.

But for now they were two young teens that were busy placing rocks in strange places for odd reasons. That is to say, none at all. The grin on Casa's face was infectious, and he couldn't stop himself from grinning right back. She had a beautiful grin....

With that thought and her whispered reminder that it was his turn, he snuck into the kitchens and arranged his brilliantly colored rocks into the shape of an arrow, pointing outside towards the wherry pens. Why? Because he could! And no one would think that the wherries had laid them, though it was amusing to think that someone might have that thought for a moment. If they were lucky. He turned towards Casa and gave her a thumbs up, glad that he had her along. Now for her! Two more spots, and they were good to go!

She choked back another giggle of delight, wiping at her eyes and beaming as they snuck out into a hall way. Here, they had to be very quiet - waking someone up now would destroy the whole thing and likely get them in a ridiculous amount of trouble. And they had been so good for so long, they couldn't afford to blow it on getting caught now! On a whim, she reached out to Knack, Edge, and Kaylee, willing them to join the duo - QUIETLY - before creeping towards one of the storage closets where the glows were kept.

"You three perch and watch out here," she whispered, gently caressing them and smiling a soft, loving smile she normally only used on them. However, she glanced back at Quenym, and the smile extended out to him for a brief moment, and then she ducked through the doorway, gone in the blink of an eye.

As soon as she was inside, she took the sack and opened one of the baskets meant for glows, in case extra light was needed. Carefully lifting several small rocks that had been painted to look obscenely bright, she filled the basket most of the way, another little snicker escaping her as she closed it and slipped it back onto the shelf. After confirming with the firelizards there was no one but Quenym in the hallway, she darted back out, handing the sack to him.

"Last ones are all you! Lead on, wing second!" The affectionate nickname slipped out before she realized it, and it made her quirk her lips softly, fond memories returning. She followed after him, commanding the 'lizards to continue high alert in case anyone decided to come poking around while they planted their final set.

Quenym was glad that Sandae's flits were quiet and discreet. His Sassy was far from it, though Lady could have done this. But he had left them in his room for now, not wanting them to be spotted anywhere and get associated with him, and with him... Well, then there would be trouble. He had expressed a bit of nervousness with her three about, but so far no one seemed to be stirring or wandering the halls, so they should be safe.

He waited for Casa to do want she needed to do. They had plotted out where all the rocks would go beforehand, so he didn't feel the need to watch her. Instead, he kept an eye out for potential party crashers.

Sandae's run was successful, and as she called him wing second he was tempted to reach out and pinch her ear. "Yea, yeah, greenie!" He shot back with a grin. "Follow me!"

Quenym darted around a corner into a room that was used as a classroom. Perfect! It nearly made his feet dance to see it like it was. And think about how it soon would be. In each seat went an egg, nested as if laid. The last bunch went where the Harper (or crafter, on occasion) would sit. Laid an egg, indeed! He snickered, then glanced up at Casa who he had left in the doorway. Quenym couldn't help but grin at her, proud that she had seen him do this, that she had helped with his plan.

And now their plan was to go back and wait for the commotion that was sure to happen when people started finding these things. He darted back out to her and grasped her hand. "Come on, sweet heart! Lets let them feast their eyes in a bit!"

In the meanwhile, they could catch up on some napping. It was still dark out, and even the small baskets of glows they used to help with this didn't take away his own tiredness.

She stuck her tongue out at him as they crept down the hall a short way, eyes bright. The game was afoot - the last of the rocks were about to be placed, their plans finally in action. As he moved into the classroom, her eyebrows raised. This was going to be a big challenge for him - this one would definitely be noticeable.

Carefully, he crept around the room, placing a rock "egg" in most of the chairs. By the end, each chair looked absolutely ridiculous. The thought of a class walking in for lessons and seeing their chairs made her force her laughter back again. The incredulous looks would be almost too much to miss! Still, she knew that if they 'fessed up to this...it would be problematic. She'd have to settle for hearing the rumors as they started to fly through the weyr.

As Quenym, his expression extremely smug, came quietly sauntering back, she followed behind him quietly, fingers absentmindedly playing with her stone choker. The feel of the smooth stones quieted the little bits of doubt she had about both the stones as well as the fear that there was still hidden problems from the fight they'd had.

As he grabbed her hand, she gladly followed him, the words "sweet heart" ringing warmly through her mind. She darted after him, telling the firelizards to join them in Quenym's room. Carefully, they made their way to the candidate quarters, slinking down the hall before pausing outside Quenym's room. Her heart skipped a beat at the thought of being able to sleep with him again - naps were the best. "Naptime now?" she mumbled, leaning into his side with a sleepy smile.

"Yeah, naptime now," he murmured to her, also tired but extremely glad that he had invit her for this. Not that she would ever have turned him down, Quenym didn't believe that for a second, but so that they had this time together. He had missed his friend. Gently kissing her forehead, he opened the door to his room and led her inside.

"Mind your step. We'll need to clean this up in the morning." The floor had paint splashed on it, and various other accoutrements they had needed for their prank. Berries for scent on some, leftover rocks that they hadn't needed, brushes and ink and other things, it was amazing they themselves hadn't had bigger messes on their persons, giving the whole thing away like that!but both had been extremely careful, and it had worked out in the end.

Used to the dark and the mess since it was his room in the end, Quenym wrapped his arm around Casa's waist to get her over to the bed safely. "Fresh sheets this time, I promise," he said as he helped her into bed and laid down beside her. They hadn't been so nice the last time she had slept over, and he remembered something about her sleeping on the floor in protest. The memory made him chuckle a bit, and he leaned over to kiss her forehead once more. He missed sleeping beside her, enjoying the warmth that she provided.

His fingers graced the necklace that she wore. "You still look real pretty in that," Quenym murmured. His eyes were starting to close. "Prettier than any other girl who would wear it."

She laughed softly at his promise for clean sheets, teasing him gently as he led her through the catastrophe they had created together. Yes, she had been silly and insisted on him cleaning up more. He wasn't a particularly messy person; just a boy, and distracted by more exciting things. Like pranks. She grinned, shrugging it off.

Once they got to his bed, she gratefully crawled on top, settling into the rushes of the mattress and beaming to herself. He'd even fluffed his mattress! She remembered showing him how to make it as puffy and comfortable as possible, as well as explain how to change the bedding material out. It seemed as though he'd been keeping up on it, because she sunk right into the bed, wiggling a little with how comfy it was.

As she snuggled in, Quenym joined her on the bed, and she curled herself into his side. She had missed this - there was no one more comfortable. No one she wanted to spend more of her time with. No one she cared more about, besides R'sin possibly. As he ran his fingers along her throat, she shivered softly, nuzzling her head into his shoulder and letting her eyes slide closed.

Quenym was glad that Casa didn't have any issue snuggling with him. They were getting older, and rumors would start flying about them like they had stared with some of the other candidates about their age. To have her tucked atop the rushes with him made him relax and realize that their friendship wasn't going anywhere, no matter how old they got.

And right now, there wasn't anyone else he wanted to cuddle up with.

His breath caught a little when she shivered against him at his touch. That had been unexpected! It also made his eyes widen and look - just look - at her with feelings that were stirring in his gut. It was just one more of the things that had started happening in the month that they hadn't been able to see each other, and while he knew it was normal, it was still disconcerting.

But when he scrunched his eyes closed, Quenym was able to relax enough to fall into slumber, his neck tickled by her gentle breaths.

And wasn't awakened until some squeals from other brats were heard the next morning. He grinned, even though his eyes we're still closed. "Wanna go see what all the fuss is about?" Quenym asked her quietly, teetering in what he actually wanted her to say. "We could go and find some of our own rocks, just to get in on the action, right?" He finally opened his eyes to look into hers. She really was rather pretty. Darting in to press a friendly peck to her lips - something he hoped she wouldn't mind - the candidate sat up and motioned towards the door.

She rolled over lazily, stretching and yawning as she blinked. Morning. Had to be morning. Maybe? Either way, it didn't matter. She had slept solidly enough, body tucked against Quenym's. As he leaned down and pecked her lips, she could help but offer him a lazy smile, their promise in the back of her mind. This was a good kind of practice. This was how she wanted to spend all of her mornings. She let that thought drift away, wrinkling her nose at how silly it seemed.

Little did she realize how serious things could become between them; right now their novel amusement and practicing at being curious teens was all very innocent. But the reality of the situation wouldn't hit her until she grew up a little more. For now, she returned the kiss gently, wrinkling her nose affectionately and slowly standing. She shifted her tanktop back down her abdoment from where it had slid up, glancing around the room.

"Uh...we had best start with clean up, or it'll be a dead give away!" She stared around the room in dismay, picking things up and tucking them in the spare trunk of the other bed. She glanced at it with a slight grin, noting its empty, dusty frame. Maybe she'd have to fix that some day. Picking up a rag, she begin to wipe up the paint, shoving brushes with the paint into the trunk. Frowning, she threw one of the spare furs and the sitting pillows over the last remaining paint splatters, hiding them for now.

"That's...a bit better. Now we can blend in without being a dead giveaway." She laughed, glancing into the hallways with a sly grin. "Shall we go find ourselves some adventure?"

Quenym groaned when she mentioned clean-up. "That's all I ever do these days," he grumbled playfully. "I think I like pranks that don't need it. Like moats around wherry pens." Besides, he had rather liked it when Casa had returned his kiss. It was sweet, a gentle touch that felt nice against his own lips. He would have preferred to trying it again rather than cleaning up!

But in agreement with her orders he tumbled off the bed and grabbed a rag right along with her. The future goldrider would have no less! There wasn't much in one of his chests, it was where they had hidden everything for the last few days as they had done this, and most everything went back in it. He also gave them a once-over to make sure that there was no paint on their bodies or clothes. Just in case with this prank.

Wrapping an arm around her waist, he grinned. "Yep! We need to get ourselves a souvenir, after all we did leave all the rocks around. Didn't leave any for ourselves." He opened the door so they could head out, like they were going for breakfast. First thing he saw were a few of the Candidates looking at the pile of rocks they had left in the center of the hallway. Some were already moving to dismantle it, while still more giggled at it and wondered. His hand slipped to Casa's hand to tug her along. "That's something. Haven't seen it before," he said in mock surprise. "Someone's gonna get in trouble for it."

A sly wink to his conspirator, and they moved on from there.

She laced her fingers into his, smile bemused as she stared down at the rocks, seemingly puzzled. "Huh. I'm envious. This is a big scale prank..." She glanced over at Quenym. "How odd." She bent over, investigating the rocks for a moment before shrugging, grabbing Quenym's hand again and tagging along after him down the hallway.

As soon as they were out of the view, she grinned slyly and shot Quenym a look. "Did you see their faces?" she hissed, eyes dancing. "Puzzled. Confused. Amused." Chuckling, she darted forward, dragging him along after her. "Let's see what else is going on, shall we?"

She trotted down the hallway, peeking around a corner towards the classroom. As they approached, she heard voices murmuring. She paused, letting the voices move on before glancing into the room. Thus far, Quenym's eggs were undisturbed. A shock of disappointment lanced through her, but she shrugged it off. Soon enough.

"So, where do we want to go to 'find' our own eggs?" She fell back slightly, content to let Quenym lead them on to wherever he wanted to gather their own. She was very excited about all of the reactions that had started to pop up.
